PR and Publicity Campaign for the Sedan Chair Race Wins Award in 2005

The PR and Publicity Campaign for the Sedan Chair Race Charities Fund for November 2004-March 2005 won an Award of Excellence from APEX™ (USA). The media coverage and value for the event was US$300,000 reaching over 22 million readers and television viewers in Hong Kong and China. Anna supervised a student team from the City University of Hong Kong who supported her on the PR and Publicity campaign for the charity. The students were from the English and Communications Department and the 9 month project is their final year project.

Usually, 50-60 corporate teams run the race around The Peak and the money fund-raised helps about 20-25 charities on their special projects. The charities are those not usually funded by the Community Chest or the Hong Kong government.

Some of the misnomers that the PR campaign had to overcome is the fact that media would report incorrectly that the funds raised went to the hospital. Although the Race and Bazaar are held on the grounds of the Matilda Hospital on the Peak in Hong Kong, none of the funds go to the hospital.

Hong Kong has many charities and the Sedan Chair Race is held on the same weekend as the Macau Grand Prix and other charity events. It is a well known family day for Hong Kong families.
